Sankofa Tumi
Sankofa is an Akan word from the Ghanaian Akan people that translates to "go back and fetch it." The phrase is derived from the words:
When the word "tumi," which means "power," is added, "sankofa tumi" can now be translated to "return to power." This is understood to mean that knowledge and wisdom from the past has the power to move us forward when we learn it. We will understand we have always had the power to go back and get what was forgotten, or left behind, and to continue moving forward with our future. It is our practice to lift as we climb. That takes POWER! |
